Two-timed French champion in coffee roasting (2017 and 2018), Veda Viraswami is the only French roaster to hold this title.
He also placed 3rd at the 2018 World Coffee Roasting Championship. He has collected the most prestigious prizes including being awarded Meilleur torréfacteur de France (best roaster in France) in 2011 by the Comité français du café.
As further proof of his excellence, Veda established 2019’s new roasting test for the Un des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (One of the Best Craftsmen of France) competition and headed up the jury.
Following his various experiences in the grand houses of coffee, Alain Ducasse entrusted him with the responsibility of roasting for La Manufacture de café.
He answers three questions:
- A preference for a particular coffee or origin?
“Ethiopian because it is where the history of coffee began, and the Reunion Island bourbon because my roots are there.”
- Your daily “coffee moment”?
“Mid morning, to take a break and savor [it].”
- A special coffee memory?
“My first time roasting. I remember it as if it was yesterday. That moment became the basis for the roaster that I am today.”
